Why 15 Minutes in the Morning Could Change Your Day
If you're a busy woman juggling work, family and everything in between, exercise is often the first thing to slip. And as the mornings get darker, getting up to move can feel even harder.
But here's the good news: you don't need an hour in the gym to look after your body. Small, regular bursts of movement, done consistently, make a real difference. Fifteen minutes first thing in the morning is often the easiest time of all to protect, because it's done before the day has a chance to get in the way.
What a short morning workout does for you
It builds strength where you need it. As women get older, and especially around menopause, we naturally lose muscle. Regular strength work helps keep your legs, back and arms strong, so everyday things like carrying the shopping, climbing the stairs or getting up off the floor stay easy.
It gives you energy for the day. Moving first thing gets your blood flowing and wakes you up better than a second cup of tea. Many women find they feel brighter and more focused all morning.
It lifts your mood. Exercise releases feel-good hormones, and starting the day with something just for you gives a lovely sense of achievement before 7am.
It's easier to stick to. Fifteen minutes feels achievable, even on a busy or tired day. And it's showing up regularly, not doing more, that brings results.
Making dark mornings easier
Get ready the night before. Put your kit out and your weights by the sofa, so there's nothing to think about.
Put the big light on straight away. Brightness tells your body it's time to wake up.
Promise yourself just two minutes. Once you've started, you'll almost always finish.
Have someone expecting you. It's much easier to turn up when you know others will be there too.
